Hug it out, bitches!

Inspiration: Iran president cements anti-US front with Venezuela

Mahmoud Ahmadinejad met with Hugo Chavez this weekend to talk some shit about America. Their alliance makes perfect sense. Iran and Venezuela are both OPEC nations that resent American hegemony and are trying their best to undermine it when they can. While Iran is working diligently on developing its nuclear weapons program, Venezuela is competing with US-backed Guatemala for a seat on the UN Security Council. Somehow, I have more confidence in Iran's ability to develop nuclear weapons than in Venezuela's ability to outmaneuver America Guatemala in a UN power play. In any case, Venezuela is vowing to stick by Iran through thick or thin.

Though Ahmadinejad is undoubtedly excited about the "$1.5 billion joint petrochemical investment" being planned, he should push Chavez to be a little more specific on how Venezuela is going to help him on the nuclear front. For example, Reuters reports that Chavez "expressed interest in working on technology with Iran if Venezuela ever developed a nuclear program." That's a nice thought and all, but when is Venezuela really going to develop a nuclear program? Never, is my guess. Also vague was Chavez's offer of "unspecified help to Iran should the United States attack its nuclear programs." Unspecified help? Thanks, dude.

Generally, the US has little to fear from Venezuela. They don't have sophisticated weapons or sophisticated military training. The worst case scenario is that Venezuela could offer its territory as a base for Iranian jets/missiles since Iran doesn't have the launch capability to actually hit us with whatever bombs they are building. But as scary as that thought is, it will never be more than just a thought -- Venezuela knows we would hit them back so hard, it would be snowing blow for months.
