Paris Day 5 - YSL

Inspiration: purple is my favorite color

Stefano Pilati, head designer for Yves Saint Laurent since Tom Ford left in 2004 (Laurent retired in 1998), sadistically had his models teetering in stilettos on a runway that was actually "a deep, earthen lawn planted with hundreds of living purple violas." Seriously, this show should have been a runway challenge on America's Next Top Model, but fortunately (or not, depending on your point of view), no models actually fell. However, Yves Saint Laurent himself was not so lucky. After the show, Laurent collapsed for 'unknown' reasons. Though many writeups have blamed Laurent's ill health on his years of 'hard-living,' I will give the man a break. After all, he is 70. Even pious nuns collapse at 70. Plus, Laurent was released from the hospital, so he probably isn't 'dying.'

Now for the clothes. Pilati's designs were not particularly flattering, though many in the fashion world will love them. The major motifs were boxy plaids, short jackets, genie pants, and flouncy dresses.
The richness of the purples was the best part of the show.
